Youth/Adolescents…

I’m a parent myself, so I understand the feelings that you can go through when your child is injured. I keep reminding myself that kids are resilient and bendy - their bodies are able to cope with a lot of stress - and therefore most things heal very well. However, children are more susceptible to other problems mainly because they haven’t yet built up their own muscle or skeletal strength yet. Rarely, some of these problems can be significant and lead to longer term problems if not diagnosed and treated appropriately.

Once an accurate diagnosis is made a treatment plan can be implemented. Although treatment is obviously tailored to the individual child, most often treatment includes simple exercise, adopting a “ladder” approach to sport, footwear advice, taping, bracing and massage.

Usually, I find that solid communication and advice to the parent and child can go miles in helping resolve the problem. Sometimes I tell the child what the parent had already been trying to communicate themselves, however for some reason it is heard better when coming from someone else! :)
