I an fully qualified to deliver the GLA:D program - an osteoarthritis exercise and education program that has been tested on over 40 000 people throughout the world over the past few years.
It involves attending an assessment and reassessment session, two education sessions, and performing 12 exercise sessions over six weeks.
The best thing about the program is that it has been tested on thousands of people throughout the world (so its no fluke), and is proven to help reduce pain and improve function - so that you are more likely to do the things that you want to do.
The other great thing is that it is also proven that your symptoms will be better a year after performing the program. As a lot of people believe that they will “progressively get worse” with osteoarthritis, I think that this is a great thing to bear in mind.
Its easy to do as well - none of this “daily exercise” stuff. Just two one hour exercise sessions for six weeks (plus two education sessions).
Another interesting element is that when your perform the GLA:D program, we take data about your performance, and your outcomes from the study. This information is added to the national database through the Latrobe University in Victoria. That way we can continue to improve treatment for Osteoarthritis. Please note, that to participate in the GLA:D program, you do not have to contribute to the data collection if you do not wish.
